The video featuring this incredible iPhone, posted by Mrwhosetheboss on his YouTube channel, and the behind-the-scenes build video on DIY Perks, have collectively gathered millions of views in under a week, making waves across the tech and gadget-loving communities. While the jaw-dropping size of the iPhone draws people in, weighing over 150kg, it’s the advanced PCAP touch technology from Pro Display that truly brings it to life. This innovative touch foil, engineered and manufactured by Pro Display, played a crucial role in making the massive iPhone not just a visual marvel, but a fully functional device capable of interacting with the world in ways never before seen.
We built the Biggest iPhone in the World – Mrwhosetheboss
Making a Giant iPhone Work
The project began as a way to celebrate Mrwhosetheboss’s milestone of overtaking Apple in subscribers (which was 19.2M). To make it truly epic, the team envisioned a gigantic, fully operational iPhone. The scale of the task was monumental—this was no ordinary replica but a 15x scaled-up version of an iPhone, over two metres tall, complete with working cameras, apps, speakers, flashlight, charging port and a fully interactive touch screen.
One of the major hurdles was finding a solution for the screen. Large-format touchscreen displays often rely on LCD technology, but that simply wouldn’t suffice for a project this bold. The team wanted to preserve the brilliant contrast and quality that iPhone users have come to expect from OLED displays. This is where Pro Display’s PCAP touch foil technology came into play.

Our Bespoke Touch Foil Solution
To make the giant iPhone interactive, Pro Display custom-engineered a PCAP (Projected Capacitive) touch foil, tailored specifically for this 88-inch OLED screen. This foil sits invisibly between an acrylic layer on the iPhone’s OLED screen and a protective hard-coated acrylic top surface, turning the oversized OLED display into a highly responsive touch screen—just like a real iPhone, but on a much larger scale.
In the video, Matt from DIY Perks illustrates how Pro Display’s touch foil needed to be meticulously laminated onto the screen, using specialized optical glue to prevent interference and preserve image quality. The touch foil worked so well that the giant iPhone could be operated effortlessly — even for tasks as delicate as sending a message or browsing social media.
What makes Pro Display’s touch foil exceptional is its ability to:
- Transform any non-touch surface, such as glass or acrylic, into an interactive touch screen.
- Scale seamlessly to any size without compromising on accuracy or sensitivity.
- Remain ultra-thin and transparent, ensuring that the pristine OLED quality remained unobstructed.
- Deliver a fast, precision, responsive touch experience even when applied to non-traditional or curved surfaces.
- Single or multi-touch functionality, with up to 40 touchpoints. This makes it highly versatile, enabling multiple users to interact with the screen simultaneously.
- Multi-Size Compatibility: Available in standard sizes from 27″ to 86″, and custom sizes ranging from 15″ to 98″, the foil can be applied to a wide range of surfaces, ensuring scalability for any project.
- Through-Glass Operation: The touch foil is designed to work through up to 20mm of glass (for single-touch) and 12mm for multi-touch, making it ideal for installations where the screen must be behind protective glass—like retail window displays or public kiosks.
- Easy Installation: It comes as a self-adhesive film that can be applied to the back of glass or acrylic. Installation is simple, with the foil connecting to a PC or media player via USB HID technology, allowing plug-and-play functionality.
- Durability and Customisation: The foil is robust and customisable with various overlays, including clear, anti-glare, or toughened glass options, making it suitable for different environments such as retail, healthcare, or transportation hubs.

Innovating Beyond the Giant iPhone
The success of this project is a perfect demonstration of how Pro Display’s touch foil technology can push boundaries. While a giant iPhone is a fun, viral demonstration, the real-world applications of this technology are even more exciting:
- Retail: Pro Display’s touch foil can turn store windows and walls into interactive displays, enhancing customer engagement.
- Education: Large-format touch displays powered by PCAP or infra-red technology provide immersive learning experiences for students.
- Corporate Environments: Meeting rooms and lobbies can be outfitted with ultra-large touch screens for collaborative workspaces and presentations
- Entertainment: Cruise-ship touch-tables to entertain/educate passengers.
