Rock Star Avatar Exhibition using our Magic Mirror Displays

    Case Study, Inspiration, Newsletters, Technology

Rising artist Emma Stern has created and exhibited Rock Star Avatars using our Magic Mirror Displays

Emma Stern is a New York-based artist who has recently gained attention for her solo exhibition, Penny & The Dimes: Dimes 4Ever World Tour, which was on view at Almine Rech‘s gallery in London from September 6 — 30, 2023. The exhibition portrayed a fictional female rock band turned into holograms by a wicked record executive. This continued her artistic investigation into avatar self-portraiture and “universe creation.”

Four 65″ 4K Magic Mirror displays were used at the exhibition to present Emma’s Lava Babies – plastic-looking female characters, which she also paints in oil on canvas. Stern draws comparisons to surrealist artists and their muses, seeing her lava babies as a form of self-portraiture and rock star avatar. As you can see in the videos, the magic mirrors look like normal mirrors except that they can display high-resolution vivid images, apparently from behind the screen, creating the effect that the avatars are in the room with you.

To minimise clutter and additional hardware at the exhibition, it was important to Emma that our solution could play her art video stored on a USB flash/thumb drive inserted directly into the display.

Our Magic Mirror displays are available in (diagonal) sizes from 32″-86″. Custom sizes are available on request. Like a mobile phone, the screens can be used in either a portrait or landscape orientation and the displayed content auto-rotates to match the orientation.
