Powering Smart Cities: Pro Display Delivers Advanced Outdoor Kiosk Solutions for Nicosia’s Digital Transformation
Nicosia, the capital of Cyprus and a historic city continuously inhabited since 3000 B.C., has launched an ambitious transformation to become the island’s first official Smart City. Co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) under the THALIA 2021–2027 program, this flagship municipal project serves as a model for urban innovation across Cyprus. Pro Display is proud to provide the specialised 55-inch high-brightness touchscreen totem for this landmark deployment, delivering interactive street-level connectivity to citizens and tourists.
A Comprehensive Smart City Ecosystem
The “Smart Nicosia” initiative encompasses 20 urban redevelopment projects and integrates 10 core smart systems across the capital, initially covering 50% of the municipal area and reaching 80% by 2026. The city’s digital backbone rests on three unified networks linking more than 20,000 sensors directly to a central Smart City Command & Control Centre, feeding live mobility, environmental, and city-service data to the public.

Pro Display’s Outdoor Digital Kiosk & Custom Integration
To connect the public with this vast IoT ecosystem, lead system integrator Mellon Cyprus partnered with Pro Display within a multi-company consortium that included a Big Four consulting firm and the island’s largest mobile network operator, Cyta.
To meet Nicosia’s rigorous outdoor operational requirements, Mellon Group selected Pro Display’s 55-inch Outdoor High-Brighness Display. Engineered to deliver high sunlight readability and withstand public use, the screen technology features anti-glare tempered glass, IK10 impact resistance for vandal protection, weatherproof sealing, and active thermal management.
To ensure the installations complemented Nicosia’s historic streetscape, Mellon Group collaborated with local structural designers to engineer bespoke outer casings and custom mounting bases. Integrating Pro Display’s 55-inch screen technology into these custom housings enabled the deployment of both portrait and landscape infopoint configurations, maintaining a sleek, modern aesthetic while ensuring durability.
Pro Display supplied 5 units with the following specification which was integrated by Mellon Cyprus with their signage software and bespoke casing.
- 55″ LED backlit
- HD 1080P
- 3,000 Nits
- PCAP Touch
- Integrated speakers
- Operating temperature range: -10°C ~ 60°C
- IP66
- Lifetime: 50,000 hrs (typically)

Street-Level Digital Kiosks and Regional Blueprint
Driven by Scala digital signage software, media players, and location licenses managed by Mellon Cyprus, the 20 initial interactive infopoints serve as dynamic public portals across Nicosia. Citizens and visitors enjoy instant, touch-screen access to essential city services, real-time travel and mobility information, and live environmental data.
Following its success in the capital, this deployment has proven to be a highly effective model, serving as a blueprint for expanding public digital infrastructure across regional transport networks. Pro Display remains committed to powering the next generation of smart urban environments with rugged, high-performance display technology.
